2024 team records: Notre Dame: 14-2; Miami: 10-3
Noting Notre Dame: The Fighting Irish are coming off their best season in quite some time in making it to the national championship game for the first time since 2012-13 … The last game the Irish won was at Hard Rock Stadium; they beat Penn State in the Orange Bowl to punch a ticket to the natty … Many of the players who got Notre Dame there have returned in 2025, including Heisman Trophy-caliber running back Jeremiyah and the two backs who backed him up, Jadarian Price and Aneyas Williams … The Irish have a veteran offensive line and a revamped wide receiver corps, too, headlined by transfers Malachi Fields from Virginia and Will Pauling from Wisconsin, but how they fare on that side of the ball will come down to the play of first-time starting quarterback CJ Carr, a redshirt freshman … Defensively, the Irish have a new coordinator in Chris Ash who’s out to do many of the same things that made Notre Dame the No. 1 pass efficiency defense in college football two years in a row.
Noting Miami: The Hurricanes had their best season since 2017 in 2024, posting 10 wins in each of those years … Miami rose to as high as No. 4 in the Associated Press Top 25 last year before losing three of four games to finish the season … So much of the Canes’ success was attributed to Heisman Trophy finalist Cam Ward, who threw for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns; Georgia transfer Carson Beck is Ward’s replacement at quarterback … While Miami posted the nation’s No. 1 scoring offense at 43.9 points per game in 2024, the Hurricanes had the country’s No. 68 scoring defense, allowing 25.3 points per game.
