As it relates to Notre Dame, day two of the NFL Draft isn’t all about tight end Michael Mayer. He’s the most dominant storyline concerning Notre Dame and the draft — without question. But save some room for defensive end Isaiah Foskey in your Friday night conversations, too.

Mayer should get picked sometime in the first dozen picks of the second round. Not hearing his name called in the first round served as a reminder that you never know, though, and anything can happen. If Mayer does come off the board early, all Blue and Gold attention will turn to Foskey.

Foskey is Notre Dame’s all-time leader in sacks (26.5). He reached 11 in each of the last two seasons. He also became the first player in Notre Dame history to record three blocks in the same game against UNLV on Oct. 22. A 6-5, 264-pound edge rusher from California, Foskey has the physical tools that translate to the next level according to NFL analyst Lance Zierlein.

“There are slight limitations in his game, but he’s going to keep getting better and has future starting potential as a 4-3 defensive end,” Zierlein said.

Here is when many reputable outlets expect Foskey to get picked Friday night. If the outlet added context to the pick, it is below the pick in italics.

The Sporting News: Round 2, pick 13, No. 44 overall to the Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons, after making the luxury pick of running back Bijan Robinson in the first round, need to get back to the serious business of rebuilding their defense with Foskey, a sound, productive pass-rusher.

NFL.com: Round 2, pick 28, No. 59 overall to the Buffalo Bills

While Foskey’s pass rush isn’t fully developed, he flashes plenty of play strength and explosiveness. He could take off in the NFL.

Yahoo Sports: Round 2, pick 30, No. 61 overall to the Chicago Bears

Sports Illustrated: Round 2, pick 30, No. 61 overall to the Chicago Bears

The Bears doubled up in the offensive trenches to start this draft, so now it’s time to help out the defensive front. Foskey is a complete player with the polished technique and well-rounded skill set to make an instant impact.
