Freeman on WR Jaden Greathouse

11/17/2025 11:56:41 AM

“It’s taking him longer than we thought to get healthy, but he’s as close to healthy as he’s been. Is it right for us to make him play these last two games and cost him a year [of eligibility]. If we don’t have to play him this week, let’s try not to. He’ll be ready, but we’ll try to hold off on playing him in hopes of redshirting this year. If we play beyond Stanford, he’ll be ready to go.”

Gabriel Rubio is also expected to return for the CFP (if the Irish get there), per Freeman.

Freeman on CB Christian Gray’s return

11/17/2025 11:55:30 AM

Marcus Freeman says Notre Dame cornerback Christian Gray played really well in his return from injury at Pitt.

“He’s different when he’s healthy. He’s a different football player.” (Horka)

Freeman on TE James Flanigan

11/17/2025 11:51:10 AM

Marcus Freeman says Notre Dame tight end James Flanigan has improved as much as any Irish freshman this season. He paid it off with a lot of appearances in the Pitt game.

Flanigan is more polished than before.

“He’s understanding how to control that toughness and physicality.” (Horka)

Freeman on his Sunday meetings with QB CJ Carr

11/17/2025 11:45:12 AM

“I’ve made it a habit to meet with the starting quarterback during the season on Sundays. I like that time — we’re intentional about it. We talk about the game, life, family — it gives me a chance to talk to somebody. A lot of times my wife is asleep when I get home, so I don’t have anyone to talk to sometimes. I probably get more out of it than CJ does.

“It’s the same thing when I meet with Kenny. I feel better after meeting with them. I gain wisdom from them. It’s important for me to put that time on my schedule.”

This is probably a quote that is better watched than read, if that makes sense. How Freeman said it has important context.

Freeman on DE Josh Burnham

11/17/2025 11:42:51 AM

Freeman says that Joshua Burnham not being healthy earlier in the season is what prohibited him from playing well.

“Now you’re seeing him have the performances that come with practicing at a high level and playing with high effort. He’s doing some really good things.”

Notre Dame HC Marcus Freeman on former Irish QB Steve Angeli:

11/17/2025 11:39:30 AM

“If he makes the trip, I would love to see him. I know we’re evaluated on wins and losses, but in my position, it’s about helping young people have success on and off the field.

“Steve is a guy who gave everything to this place when he was here. Like I told him when he decided to leave, the relationship between a coach and player doesn’t stop once you’re gone. I’m always supporting him. I was so happy when I found out he was named starter and watched him do some successful things. I reached out to him when he got hurt.

“I would love to see him and hug him, because I care about him. I hope he’s able to make the trip.”

Freeman reflects on the Pitt game

11/17/2025 11:35:31 AM

“I thought our guys played hard and physical, and that’s an identity that we want from our program.”

“That last touchdown was our fault. It’s not Coach Narduzzi’s fault for calling a timeout. It’s not the refs’ fault for throwing penalties.”

Freeman on Notre Dame’s defense: “I thought they played lights out. I really did.”
