Two seasons after drafting him in the second round, the New Orleans Saints cut former Notre Dame defensive end Isaiah Foskey. Now, he has a second chance with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bengals — led in part by defensive coordinator Al Golden, who coached him with the Irish in 2022 — signed Foskey to their practice squad on Tuesday, according to multiple reports. He joins defensive tackle Howard Cross III as Notre Dame alums on Cincinnati’s defensive line.

Foskey was the 40th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft after a stellar career in South Bend. He totaled 26.5 sacks throughout his college career, which is a program record, and he was a consensus All-American in 2022.

However, Foskey did not live up to expectations in New Orleans. He never gained the trust of his coaches, playing just 149 defensive snaps in two seasons. As a result, he picked up just 0.5 sacks as a Saint before being released on Aug. 26.

Joe Alt is a weapon at left tackle for the Chargers.

The Irish have to give their best player more opportunities this week.

On Saturday, football will be played in South Bend for the first time since Dec. 20.

Quote of the day

“Yeah. I think in the role that I’m in, given the magnitude of the game, I don’t know how much I’m thinking or contemplating that. Obviously, the roster is different. There’s not a lot of player carry-over. I think for me, obviously, I have a ton of respect for the program, the tradition, the history that is Notre Dame. Had a great year when I was there last time, and it’ll be exciting to go back for sure, but I don’t know that the nostalgia is going to be there.”
