Newsstand: Former Notre Dame LB Paul Moala picks transfer destination

Former Notre Dame linebacker Paul Moala’s career reboot will take him out West.
Moala committed to Idaho Tuesday as a graduate transfer following a weekend official visit, he announced on social media, ending his three-month stay in the portal.
As it stands, Moala has two seasons of eligibility left. His last two were wiped out by serious injuries. He tore his Achilles in the third game of the 2020 season and suffered the same injury in the 2021 opener. He entered the transfer portal a few hours after Notre Dame’s Fiesta Bowl loss to Oklahoma State. He’s one of 12 Irish players to seek a transfer since September. Of that dozen, he’s the ninth to find his next destination.

Moala made 22 tackles (1.0 for loss) and returned a fumble for a touchdown in Notre Dame’s 2019 victory over Navy. He was the No. 2 rover in 2019 and 2020 before suffering his injury and a steady special-teams presence since 2018. A local product from Mishawaka (Ind.) Penn High School, he signed with Notre Dame as a three-star prospect. He was the No. 959 player in the 2018 cycle, per the On3 Consensus.
Cornerback JoJo Johnson, safety Litchfield Ajavon and safety K.J. Wallace are the remaining Notre Dame transfers who have not settled on a next stop.
