Newsstand: Four Notre Dame football stars named to major award watch lists

Four Notre Dame stars were named to two major college football award watch lists, the Irish announced Tuesday.
Sophomore cornerback Leonard Moore and junior linebacker Drayk Bowen made the watch list for the Bronko Nagurki Trophy, which honors the best defensive player in country. Meanwhile, redshirt junior offensive linemen Aamil Wagner and Billy Schrauth made the watch list for the Outland Trophy, which is given annually to the nation’s top interior lineman.

Safety Xavier Watts is the last Notre Dame player to win the Nagurski Trophy, bringing it to South Bend with a 7-interception season in 2023. However, the Irish have not taken home the Outland Trophy since defensive end Ross Browner won it in 1976.

That’s a lot of pressure entering the 2025 season…
Great news for Beaux Collins at New York Giants training camp:
Quote of the day
“I’ve said it. [Notre Dame head football coach] Marcus [Freeman] has said it. And we make no secret about it. We want to play USC every year. As I’ve said in the past, I just think that would be a horrible thing if we don’t. I think it would be bad for us. I think it would be bad for college football. And USC knows that.”
— Notre Dame athletics director Pete Bevacqua
