On Tuesday, ESPN and the College Football Playoff announced a new media rights deal that will run from the 2026-27 season through the 2031-32 season. The Athletic reported it will be worth $1.3 billion per year, a not insignificant portion of which will go to Notre Dame.

According to The Athletic’s Chris Vannini, the Irish will get $12 million annually from the deal. If the Irish make the College Football Playoff, that number will jump to $18 million.

To put that number into perspective, each Big Ten and SEC team will receive more than $21 million per year. Each ACC team will get $13 million per year, while each Big 12 team will get $12 million per year. Each Group of Five team, on the other hand, will receive $1.8 million per year.

The Athletic also reported that the money will remain the same even if the CFP expands from 12 to 14 teams, which has been rumored as a possibility.

“Seeding doesn’t matter. We’re still going to go out and play our game of basketball whether we got a five seed or whether we got a two seed or one seed. It doesn’t matter. We’re still going to play Notre Dame basketball.”
