Former Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt started a run of nine offensive linemen selected during the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night. The Athletic’s Dane Brugler has former Irish offensive tackle Blake Fisher closing out the second round.

In Brugler’s NFL Rounds 2 and 3 mock draft, he has the Chiefs taking Fisher with the No. 64 overall pick. Brugler projects Fisher as the sixth offensive lineman to come off the board on Friday.

If Fisher were to wind up in Kansas City, he would join former Irish linebacker Drue Tranquill. Tranquill signed a three-year contract worth $19 million to remain with the two-time defending Super Bowl champions this offseason. Former Irish quarterback Ian Book is also on the Chiefs’ roster.

The last time the Chiefs drafted a former Notre Dame player was in 2016. That year, they chose defensive back KeiVarae Russell with the No. 74 overall pick.

Notre Dame Quote of the Day

“Really good intel from Mike Elston, our defensive line coach. He was coaching at Notre Dame for Joe’s freshman year. And also Chris O’Leary, who was just at Notre Dame. We had the kind of intel you expect to have, people that were right inside the building who were there with him every single day.”
