Two of the top-three college football transfers who are currently committed to a new school will play for Notre Dame in 2024, according to On3’s own rankings. Former Duke quarterback Riley Leonard is No. 2, while former Florida International wide receiver Kris Mitchell is No. 3.

Only former Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who committed to Oregon on Dec. 9, is ranked higher. He ranks second among all players (committed and uncommitted) in the transfer portal, per On3, while Leonard ranks fourth and Mitchell ranks 12th.

In the On3 Industry Ranking, Leonard is still the second-highest ranked committed transfer, but Mitchell is only ninth. On3 is much higher on Mitchell than the rest of the recruiting industry, which ranks him as the 47th-best overall transfer.

Quote of the day

“He’s an athlete. That’s the first thing that pops off the tape to me. He’s going to create havoc for opposing defensive coordinators because you have to respect him at all times. You have to have someone account for him at all times. He’ll take off and go.

“He’s a bigger Ian Book. Leonard is a big, strong and powerful player. He’s a competitor and that really shows on film. When we saw him against Notre Dame this year — he gets after it every play.

“Leonard has a really good arm. Is it a cannon for 70 yards? No, but he’s really electric in the intermediate game and can throw the ball downfield. He has a really quick release.

“This is really exciting. He’s completely different than the last two quarterback transfers in Jack Coan and Sam Hartman, who were pocket guys. He’s an athlete. He can run, move in the pocket and get the ball downfield. If you don’t spy him, he’ll run you to death.”
