Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt is climbing up 2024 NFL Draft rankings as analysts review his senior season. ESPN’s Jordan Reid has Alt at No. 4 overall on his top-50 big board, which he updated Wednesday morning.

Only Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., USC quarterback Caleb Williams and North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, respectively, sit ahead of Alt on Reid’s board. The next-best offensive lineman is Penn State’s Olumuyiwa Fashanu at No. 9 overall.

“There isn’t another prospect I was more impressed with while out on the road live scouting this past year,” Reid wrote. “Alt came to the Irish as a tight end, but his transition to offensive tackle over the past three seasons has been seamless. He’s the most versatile blocker in this loaded OT class. Thanks to unique arm length, he is difficult for defenders to get around — but he also overwhelms pass-rushers.

“Alt had some technique and flexibility question marks coming into last season, but he has fixed those issues and become a model of consistency. After allowing one sack in 2023, Alt is a plug-and-play left tackle who will be a plus starter for more than a decade.”

Alt is currently projected by most outlets to be the first offensive tackle off the board, but draft analysts often have him outside the top five. Reid is particularly high on the 6-foot-8, 315-pound Alt, who is a near-lock to be taken in the first 10 picks.

Quote of the day

“I have such a strong relationship with them. I really trust what they’re building. Also, on the academic side, that degree is something special. It’s something that will take you far in life. I noticed that especially because I want to get into business. Notre Dame has good connections.

“At Notre Dame, you get the best of both worlds. You get the books and the ball. I’m excited to be a part of that.”
