Newsstand: Notre Dame stays in top 10 of Coaches Poll after loss to Miami

Despite its 27-24 loss to Miami in Week 1, Notre Dame did not fall far in the US LBM Coaches Poll. In fact, it remained in the top 10.
The Irish fell from No. 6 to No. 9, and they were close to No. 8 Clemson than they were to No. 10 Arizona State. Ohio State, Penn State, Georgia, LSU, Oregon, Texas and Miami, respectively, were also ranked ahead of head coach Marcus Freeman‘s team.
Notre Dame is also ranked No. 9 in the Associated Press Top 25, which makes one thing very clear: The voting public does not think a 3-point loss to a top-10 team on the road should hurt the Irish, who are still considered a College Football Playoff contender.
For Freeman’s group to remain that way, it has to defeat Texas A&M at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 13 in South Bend.

Quote of the day
“What was the big question about Notre Dame coming into the game? It was the quarterback, right? CJ Carr, with kind of a unique plan early on of a short passing attack, he kind of grew up before our eyes. He showcased some mobility that we weren’t really sure he had. He was able to keep some plays alive, did a good job in the scramble drill — did have the interception, but that was really more of a great defensive play than it was a poor throw or a poor decision.
“There were a couple of things he’d probably like to have back. But for a first start, though, against a new defensive coordinator when you’re preparing all week and you’re not really knowing what you’re going to get. I thought he handled the environment really well.”
