Notre Dame’s two best players are semifinalists for two of the most prestigious awards in college football. Junior running back Jeremiyah Love is a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, while sophomore cornerback Leonard Moore is up for the Bednarik Award.

The Maxwell Award honors college football’s player of the year, while the Bednarik Award is given annually to the defensive player of the year.

Love is third in the nation in yards from scrimmage (1,242) and tied for first in total touchdowns (16). He has 154 carries for 988 yards (6.4 yards per attempt) on the season with 13 rushing touchdowns, alongside 24 receptions for 254 yards and 3 receiving touchdowns.

Moore has 3 interceptions, and he would have more if teams dared to throw his way more often. His 90.0 PFF coverage grade is No. 1 among qualified Power Four cornerbacks.

So bizarre.

Quote of the day

“That’s just who he is. He needed to play in real action, right? He didn’t get that chance to play a whole lot in his first game, so he needed to play in real action. Now, you can even see from the first game he played to now, it even slowed down a little bit more.”
