Newsstand: NFL GM reveals Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love's early NFL Draft standing

NFL talent evaluators are already buzzing about Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love ahead of his junior season.
On Friday, ESPN NFL draft analyst Mike Miller debated the top 2026 NFL Draft prospects at every position. In his analysis, Miller included a quote from an anonymous NFL general manager who offered high praise for Love as the potential top running back in the next draft class.
“Love is far and away the best back in the class,” the general manager told Miller. “Probably in college, period. At least on offense, he holds the largest gap between prospect No. 1 and prospect No. 2 at any position.”
Love emerged in the national spotlight during a breakout sophomore season. In 16 games, he recorded 163 carries for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns, including several highlight-reel hurdles and an unforgettable 2-yard touchdown run against Penn State in the Orange Bowl.
Miller considers Penn State senior running back Nick Singleton — a former Fighting Irish recruiting target — the biggest challenger to Love for the RB1 spot. Still, in Miller’s eyes, Love “has the total package to be an elite NFL prospect,” citing his vision, power and burst.
In the last NFL Draft, Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty (No. 6 overall) and North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton (No. 22 overall) were first-round selections. Love is aiming to be the first Notre Dame running back to go in Round 1 since Jerome Bettis, the No. 10 pick in the 1993 NFL Draft.

Notre Dame Quote of the Day
“What has my attention is that they have such a good football culture and a historic program. Also it’s a very good school for academics and it’s good for life after football. Another reason why they caught my attention is how their coaching staff takes time to talk to me and build relationships with me.”
