Freeman on Brian Kelly being fired at LSU
10/27/2025 11:59:14 AM“You never want to see anyone lose their job … especially someone you know and are rooting for. Coach Kelly gave me an opportunity to come here, and I’m always rooting for him. But it’s also the profession we chose. We know this can be the result of the profession.”
Freeman on his coaches getting looks at other head coaching jobs
10/27/2025 11:53:52 AM“That’s coming from the assumption that everyone is dying to be a head coach. I don’t know if that’s the case. If they are, I’d stand on the table for every one of our coaches. I’m humbled by the coaching staff we have. They all deserve the opportunity, and I believe they’d be successful because they do it for the right reasons. They don’t do this for individual glory; they do it to help young people.”
Freeman on the scout team O-line
10/27/2025 11:52:36 AMFreeman notes that Brenan Vernon, Sean Sevillano and Armel Mukam has been working with the scout team offense.
Irish have suffered so many injuries on the O-line so the D-line — which has more depth — have been coming over to help out.
Freeman on Kenny Minchey
10/27/2025 11:47:27 AM“He’s a selfless individual. He’s a competitor and works and prepares like he’s the starter. There will be a moment where he’s needed to go in and help this offense. He’ll be ready because he not only prepares himself but he helps the people in the room prepare. That helps Notre Dame, and that’s a reflection of Kenny putting Notre Dame in front of himself.”
Freeman on CB Christian Gray
10/27/2025 11:43:31 AM“It starts with health for him. He’s been pretty banged up. But he’s such a tough individual. He never wants to come out of the game and tell someone how he’s truly feeling … So we have to be proactive with him on evaluating him and what areas need to recover. That’s where a lot of the issues came from — injuries. That caused him to play with poor technique in certain situations.
“The second thing is trusting the technique and doing it consistently. He’ll never make excuses, but we have to get him healthy.”
Freeman on QB CJ Carr
10/27/2025 11:42:18 AM“He has done a wonderful job in these first seven games — leading this offense, what he has on his plate, he has done a tremendous job. And there’s more to his game that I’m looking forward to seeing.”
Freeman on key DL Gabriel Rubio
10/27/2025 11:39:43 AMFreeman said Gabriel Rubio is expected to return this season, but no concrete timeline for his return.
Sounds like Freeman expects Rubio to miss at least a couple weeks.
Freeman on the identity of the team
10/27/2025 11:38:35 AMHe says it’s no different than what he wants it to be in any other year; running the ball and stopping the run.
“We’re always going to be an O-line and D-line driven program,” he said.
On the kicking game
10/27/2025 11:35:54 AMMarcus Freeman says the problems are both injury issues and technique related.
“Injuries make you compensate on your technique. Both the field goal and the extra point that we missed were technique issues that were the result of injury. Noah [Burnette] is feeling better as we go into this week, but he has to trust his technique and not lot his previous injury dictate his technique.”
