Notre Dame walk-on QB Anthony Rezac to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

After two years as a practice player at Notre Dame, preferred walk-on quarterback Anthony Rezac plans to leave the program with hopes of finding a chance to play elsewhere.

On Tuesday, On3 college football insider Pete Nakos reported Rezac is set to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal when it opens Jan. 2. The 6-foot-3, 201-pound Rezac is the second Irish signal-caller to reportedly seek a transfer, following backup quarterback Kenny Minchey. Rezac has three years of eligibility remaining.

Rezac never appeared in a game during his two-year Notre Dame career. The closest he would have come was as the holder for the placekicking team. However, fifth-year quarterback Tyler Buchner won that job before the 2025 season.

Rezac is the twin brother of Irish sophomore linebacker Teddy Rezac. Teddy has played in 20 games the last two seasons, primarily on special teams, recording 5 tackles. As of Tuesday, Teddy had not revealed any plans to follow his brother into the transfer portal.

Though he never had the chance to showcase it, Anthony arrived in South Bend with potential as a passer.

A product of Omaha (Neb.) Westside, Rezac was the Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year his high school senior year in 2024. During his college football recruitment, he announced eight offers, including ones from Air Force, Army and Navy. The other four were from Ivy League schools, Colgate, Dartmouth, Harvard and Yale. He also had one from South Dakota.

Rezac led the Westside Warriors to two state championships in Nebraska’s highest classification (Class A). His one as a senior was his best statistically.

In 13 games, Rezac completed 160-218 (73.4%) passes for 2,316 yards, 30 touchdowns, with 5 interceptions. On the ground, he compiled 905 yards and 15 scores on 97 carries (9.3 yards per carry).

During his junior season, Rezac relied on his rushing skills more frequently. He had 160 carries for 1,118 yards and 19 touchdowns in 13 games. In the passing game, he connected on 168-250 throws (67.2%) for 2,239 yards, 19 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions.

Rezac finished high school with 407-584 completions (69.7%) for 5,776 yards, 68 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 35 games across three seasons. His final rushing stats were 309 carries for 2,270 yards and 36 scores.

With Minchey and Rezac’s impending departures, the only quarterbacks from last year’s Notre Dame team that remain with the program are starter CJ Carr and true freshman Blake Hebert. Meanwhile, 2026 class signee Noah Grubbs will join the team in January, and the Irish hope to add 2027 class commit Teddy Jarrard in June, contingent on a successful reclassification.
