Notre Dame keeps it in the family with offer to Jayshon Limar
Every time Notre Dame class of 2023 running back Jayden Limar has been up to South Bend — which is three times in total — his younger brother, class of 2025 athlete Jayshon Limar, has also made the trip.
His relationship with the Notre Dame coaching staff had been mostly as Jayden’s little brother. But after Jayshon shined in game action as a sophomore before suffering a season-ending injury, the Notre Dame staff extended an offer to the younger sibling. Now, Jayshon’s relationship with the Fighting Irish is as a top recruit in his own right.
“I was a little bit surprised,” Jayshon Limar to Blue & Gold about receiving the offer Oct. 29. “I was focused on trying to hype my team up for our game, and all of a sudden, my coach told me that Chad [Bowden] from Notre Dame had offered me.
“I was very excited. It gives me the opportunity to possibly play with my brother. There’s a real family vibe at Notre Dame, and I like it there a lot. It’s a great opportunity, and I’m excited to get to know the coaches even better.”
Putting his brother aside, there’s a lot Jayshon enjoys when it comes to Notre Dame.
“I like the education and the theme they’re building — the family vibe and how Coach [Marcus] Freeman is very close with his players,” he said. “They treat me like family, and I like that.”
“I’ve had some conversations with Coach [Deland] McCullough; he’s a cool dude and I like him a lot. He’s like a father figure, and I really like that in a coach. He wants to influence you on and off the field.”
Jayshon may replace his older brother as Lake Stevens (Wash.) High’s lead running back next season, but he’s likely going to outgrow the position. The Irish actually like him on defense currently.
“They’re mostly looking at me at linebacker,” Limar said. “Right now, I’m 6-1, 205 pounds, and I’m only a sophomore. Running back might be out of the picture, but we’ll see how big I get.”
There’s a long ways to go in Jayshon’s recruitment, but the idea of playing with his older brother in South Bend is an exciting idea for him.
“I’d love to play with him,” he said. “It’d be a great opportunity, especially since this year got cut short because I got injured. I’ll probably play linebacker and he’ll play running back, so it’d be cool to have a brother on each side of the ball. But it would also be cool to play against him, though. If I met him in the hole, it’d be fun to see what happens.”
Limar’s injury was an ACL tear, which he suffered in the second game of the season. He reports that his recovery has been going well.
Limar also holds offers from Washington State, Oregon, Arizona and Arizona State.
