Notre Dame four-star RB target Jonaz Walton sets commitment date

One of Notre Dame football’s top 2026 class recruiting targets will come off the board next Wednesday.
On Thursday, Carrollton (Ga.) Central four-star running back Jonaz Walton posted on social media that he would reveal his commitment on May 14 at 3 p.m. ET. He will announce his decision on the On3 Recruits YouTube channel.
Walton will choose between Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida, Stanford and Tennessee. The 5-foot-9, 190-pounder reports scholarship offers from 22 other Power Four programs, including Georgia, Auburn, Florida State, Ohio State, Southern Cal, Penn State, Miami (FL), Penn State, Michigan, Texas, Ole Miss and Texas A&M.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking — a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services — Walton is the No. 123 overall player, No. 10 running back nationally and No. 14 prospect in Georgia in the 2026 cycle.
Walton’s announcement to shut down his recruitment comes two days after Notre Dame running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider visited the Peach State standout. On Tuesday night, On3 vice president of recruiting and transfer portal Steve Wiltfong logged a prediction into the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) for the Irish to eventually secure Walton’s commitment.
Walton last visited unofficially visited Notre Dame on April 8. It was his second trip to campus after visiting for the first time on Jan. 25 for the program’s junior day event. He is also scheduled to return to South Bend on an official visit June 13.

“It was really good overall,” Walton told On3 following his latest trip. “I was able to do a lot more stuff than any other visit because it was so much longer. Got a lot more insight into Notre Dame as a place. It was good.
“Some of my favorite things about it comes down to the academic piece of it. That’s one of the biggest things I enjoy about it. And the coaches. Coach Seider is a new addition. I have a relationship with him, and it’s amped up more now. Same thing with Coach (Marcus) Freeman. Being able to get around him and get to know more about him.”
The Irish already have one 2026 class running back commit in Javian Osborne. The four-star recruit from Forney (Texas) High pledged to Notre Dame over Michigan last Saturday. Osborne ranks as the No. 109 overall player, No. 8 running back in America and No. 15 recruit in Georgia in the 2026 class.
Notre Dame’s 2026 class ranks No. 4 in the 2026 Industry Ranking football Team Recruiting Rankings. It has secured seven commitments since March.
