On Dec. 15, Raleigh (N.C.) Cardinal Gibbons cornerback Xavier Hasan announced his commitment to Notre Dame, adding to the Fighting Irish’s hot streak in the 2027 class.

The 5-11, 190-pounder picked the Irish over Ohio State, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Florida State, his other five finalists.

Hasan, who is listed as the No. 46 overall prospect and No. 7 cornerback in America according to the 2027 Rivals Industry Ranking, made his decision public on the Rivals Recruits YouTube channel. Watch a replay of Hasan’s announcement in the video player above, followed by Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong and Blue & Gold’s Mike Singer giving their thoughts on the news afterward.

“Coach Mick (Mike Mickens) and Coach Free (Marcus Freeman) — the way they’ve recruited me ever since St. Patrick’s Day when they offered me — they’ve been on me hard,” Hasan said when asked on the stream about his decision. “Coach J Cod (Jevaughn Codlin) — our connection was a big part of it. Whenever I go there, it feels different — it feels like home.”

The four-star junior informed the Irish staff of his commitment two weeks prior to his announcement day.

“I told them on Dec. 1, and Coach J Cod was ecstatic,” Hasan said. “He was really excited, and then I called Coach Freeman, who was getting a hair cut when I called him. He said it’s a special place, and he can’t wait to get me there.”

More details on new Notre Dame commit Xavier Hasan

Notre Dame offered Hasan as part of its Pot of Gold day back in March. Hasan’s first visit to campus was for the staff’s Irish Invasion camp in early June, and he returned to South Bend for the Texas A&M game in September and the Navy contest two months later.

Hasan didn’t get many targets thrown his way as a junior, limiting his statistical production. He posted 17 tackles (1 for loss), 3 interceptions and 1 pass breakup. He totaled four special teams return touchdowns.

As a sophomore, he totaled 31 stops (1 for loss), 7 interceptions, 8 pass breakups and 1 fumble recovery. He was named to the CAP-6 All-Conference first-team defense.

He reports that he hasn’t given up a touchdown and has allowed a 13 percent completion percentage on his targets over the past two seasons.

Hasan is committed to playing in the 2026 Polynesian Bowl.

In the spring, Hasan posted a personal records of 10.9 in the 100-meter race and 22.2 in the 200 meters.

Rivals’ own rankings are higher on Hasan than the Industry Ranking, listing him as the No. 27 prospect nationally and No. 4 cornerback.

“I’m a hard worker; you’re going to get 100 percent out of me all the time,” Hasan said. “I’m caring — I like to help other people and give back. I love my family. I love to spend time with the people I love.”
