A scheduling mishap on the part of Miami has delayed the Hurricanes’ from matching up with Notre Dame in 2024. The two programs will meet in 2025, according to a report from the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, and the Canes will travel to Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend in 2026.

Originally, Miami was supposed to go to South Bend next year. Jackson explained that Miami had a “scheduling conundrum” because it had five non-conference games booked in 2024, and it could only play four of those. Miami will follow through with games against Florida, Florida A&M, Ball State and South Florida.

Notre Dame, meanwhile, needs to find an 12th opponent. The 11 foes, as it stands, are as follows. Home games are bolded.

2024 Notre Dame football schedule

  • Aug. 31: at Texas A&M
  • Sept. 7: Northern Illinois
  • Sept. 14: at Purdue
  • Sept. 21: Miami (Ohio)
  • Sept. 28: Louisville
  • Oct. 12: Stanford
  • Oct. 19: at Georgia Tech
  • Oct. 26: Navy
  • Nov. 9: Florida State
  • Nov. 16: Virginia
  • Nov. 30: at USC

Northern Illinois, Miami (Ohio), Louisville, Stanford, Navy, Florida State and Virginia do not make for the most intriguing home lineup. The U could have been the most riveting of Notre Dame’s home matchups in 2024. Now it’ll be, without question, a Florida State program seemingly on the rise, but the Irish and Seminoles just met in 2021.

As for 2026, Notre Dame now has a home slate of Miami, Virginia, Michigan State and Syracuse. By then, it will have been 10 years since the Spartans played in South Bend. It will have been exactly 10 years since the Hurricanes played in South Bend, too.

Notre Dame has a neutral site game vs. Wisconsin scheduled for Sept. 5, 2026, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisc. The Irish are also set to play at Purdue, at North Carolina, at Navy, at USC and at Florida State in 2026.

Notre Dame begins the 2023 season in 19 days against Navy in Dublin, Ireland. It’s the first time the Irish have played in Ireland since 2012 and just the third time in school history.

Head coach Marcus Freeman is looking to improve upon a 9-4 record in his first season at the helm in 2022. He became the first Notre Dame coach to ever start a tenure with an 0-3 record, but rattled off nine wins in 11 games after losses to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl, Ohio State in last year’s season opener and Marshall in the home opener.
