Newsstand: Notre Dame football 2026 season opener at Lambeau Field moved to Sunday
Notre Dame will play on Sunday in back-to-back season openers. The Fighting Irish announced Wednesday that the 2026 Shamrock Series game against Wisconsin will take place on Sunday, Sept. 6, instead of Saturday, Sept. 5.
The Irish are already opening the 2025 season on Sunday, Aug. 31, at Miami.
Next year’s Shamrock Series game was originally scheduled for 2020. It was postponed and moved back several years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Irish and Badgers met in a Shamrock Series game at Soldier Field in Chicago in 2021. The Irish won, 41-13.
The Irish will be the home team at the home of the Green Bay Packers next year. It’ll be the third ever college football game at historic Lambeau Field and the first since Wisconsin played LSU there in 2016. St. Norbert played Fordham at Lambeau in 1983.
Lambeau Field is named after Curly Lambeau, who was a Notre Dame football player over 100 years ago. He played for head coach Knute Rockne in Rockne’s first season with the Irish.

Fighting Irish quote of the day
“We can’t just sit here and say goodbye and hug it out right now because we are going to go through about six grueling days here it looks like. In tonight’s game we got out-executed. But over the last six weeks, nobody outplayed us, really, in the country.”
