Pregame updates

12:23 p.m. ET: Notre Dame players emerge from the tunnel after the “Victory March” from the Basilica of the Sacred Heart to the stadium. The defensive players and coaches gather around the midfield monogram for a pregame talk. They’re back in the locker room by 12:30.

12:40: p.m.: The first Irish players emerge in for light warmups and individual stretching. Quarterback Tyler Buchner comes out to throw at 12:43.

12:50 p.m.: Most players are out for initial warmups. Kickers begin their field goal practice.

12:59 p.m.: Grupe finishes his warmups kicking toward the north goal posts with a 55-yard field goal that had plenty of distance to spare. He comes back to that side, this time with a holder and long snapper, and comfortably hits from 53 before leaving the field.

1:15 p.m.: Most players are back in the locker room to change into uniforms. The exceptions are running backs Logan Diggs and Gi’Bran Payne, who stick around for more warmups while carrying a ball in their arm.

1:30 p.m.: The specialists are the first players to emerge in uniform.

1:38 p.m.: Notre Dame releases its pregame injury report and says no players on the two-deep are expected to miss the game. Marcus Freeman said left guard Jarrett Patterson is expected to play, and the injury report is another strong hint at it.

1:42 p.m.: The kick and punt returners emerge in uniform.

1:48 p.m.: The quarterbacks and centers emerged to practice together. Zeke Correll snaps to Buchner, Pat Coogan to Drew Pyne, Josh Lugg to Steve Angeli and Ashton Craig to Ron Powlus III.

1:51 p.m.: Quarterbacks move over to throwing routes on air to receivers, running backs and tight ends.

1:57 p.m.: Players convene for full team stretching and warmups. Sophomore linebacker Will Schweitzer and freshman punter Bryce McFerson were not participating. Freeman said McFerson, who won the kickokff job in fall camp, is nursing a groin injury that prevented him from kicking off in the opener. Freshman walk-on Zac Yoakam filled in.

2:10 p.m.: As expected, Patterson reps with the first-team offense at left guard. The second team was (left to right) Michael Carmody, Andrew Kristofic, Coogan, Rocco Spindler and Tosh Baker.

2:15 p.m.: The team heads back into the locker room for one final message from Freeman.

2:35 p.m.: Freeman leads Notre Dame out of the tunnel and onto the field.

2:37 p.m.: Marshall wins the toss and defers. Notre Dame will start with the ball.
