Notre Dame forward Tae Davis to enter NCAA transfer portal

Notre Dame forward Tae Davis came in third place for Atlantic Coast Conference Most Improved Player as a junior, setting himself up for a prolific senior year. He’ll spend that senior year elsewhere.
Davis reported his intention to enter the transfer portal Sunday with one season of eligibility remaining, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. He spent two years with the Irish after transferring from Seton Hall, averaging 15.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game throughout the 2024-25 season.
Davis was a bright spot in head coach Micah Shrewsberry’s second season in South Bend, which did not go according to plan. The Irish finished 15-18 overall and 8-12 in the ACC, and lost to North Carolina in the second round of the ACC Tournament.
Standing at 6-foot-9, the in-state product from Indianapolis had the ability to drive the basketball and create tough buckets for the Irish. He was also Notre Dame’s best defender, receiving a vote for ACC Defensive Player of the year.
Davis improved his points per game from 9.2 to 15.1 from his first to his second season with the Irish. No one will mistake him for a high-volume or high-efficiency three-point shooter, but he also improved his three-point percentage from 18.4 to a respectable 30.2.

Without Davis, Notre Dame is extremely thin in the front court and must hunt a transfer portal addition or two of its own. The Irish believe incoming freshman Brady Koehler can one day be the defensive anchor that Davis was — with a more complete offensive game — but he may need a year to develop.
Davis will have plenty of suiters in a transfer portal market that’s expected to be extremely player-friendly for forwards. ESPN’s Jeff Borzello reported that Davis plans to sign with agents Alex Saratsis and Ron Shade of Octagon Basketball.
That is the same agency Notre Dame guard Markus Burton signed with earlier this week. Burton would also receive strong interest if he were to enter the transfer portal, which opens Monday.
