Notre Dame point guard Hannah Hidalgo wins gold with Team USA at FIBA AmeriCup

Notre Dame point guard Hannah Hidalgo can add another gold medal to what’s got to be a treasure chest overflowing with accolades at this point. The rising junior Fighting Irish point guard helped Team USA win the FIBA AmeriCup with a championship victory over Brazil on Sunday.
USA beat Brazil, 92-84, in comeback fashion. Hidalgo had 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
Hidalgo was one of the Americans’ most productive player all tournament long. She averaged 12.4 points, 4.6 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game. USA went 7-0 in the tourney, winning all four group games and three elimination games in the quarterfinals, semifinals and final.
Hidalgo has won three gold medals with Team USA now. She won one at the U17 World Cup in 2022 and the U19 World Cup in 2023.
This summer’s USA AmeriCup team was coached by Duke head coach Kara Lawson. She shared a message for her 12 players on social media Monday morning.
“It has been an honor to be your Coach,” Lawson wrote. “To watch you grow and compete was something I will carry with me. I am so excited for you and your futures. You are the 2025 AmeriCup Champions! We will always share a powerful memory of sacrifice, toughness and belief.”
It’s back to South Bend for Hidalgo to reunite with her Notre Dame teammates who have been hard at work in her absence. Only two of those teammates are returnees from last year’s Notre Dame roster, one that lost to Lawson and the Blue Devils in the ACC Tournament in a similar manner in which it was ousted from the NCAA Tournament by TCU.

Speaking of TCU — former Notre Dame point guard Olivia Miles, now a Horned Frog, was a teammate of Hidalgo on the Team USA roster this summer. She produced 7.1 assists, 6.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for the Americans over the course of the seven games.
It was a collection of the country’s best collegiate players representing Team USA in Santiago, Chile, over the last week and change with the sport’s veteran players wrapped up in the current WNBA season. Hidalgo was the team’s second-leading scorer behind rising Vanderbilt sophomore guard Mikayla Blakes. Blakes averaged 14.0 points per game in the tournament, aided by a 27-point outburst in the championship game.
Blakes was named the tournament MVP. She was joined on the All-Star Five team by Hidalgo, Canada’s Syla Swords and Brazil’s Kamilla Cardoso and Damiris Santas.
Hidalgo will team up with a former Vanderbilt forward, Malaya Cowles, at Notre Dame. Those two and the rest of the roster head coach Niele Ivey has assembled, minus Duke transfer Vanessa de Jesus who will represent the Philippines at the FIBA Asia Cup in China later the month, will use the rest of the summer to get right for the upcoming 2025-26 college basketball season.
