Key Notre Dame TE target Preston Fryzel returning to campus for official visit

A key name has been added to Notre Dame football’s list of recruits officially visiting campus this Friday through Sunday.
On Tuesday, Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic tight end Preston Fryzel confirmed to Blue & Gold he will return to campus this weekend. Blue & Gold recruiting insider Mike Singer reported Monday sources in South Bend anticipated the 6-foot-4, 215-pounder’s visit to Notre Dame.
It will be Fryzel’s second time visiting Notre Dame since receiving a scholarship offer from Marcus Freeman’s program May 21. Ranked No. 19 in Ohio and No. 17 among tight ends nationally in the 2026 class by On3, Fryzel previously visited Notre Dame unofficially last Tuesday. The trip left a strong impression.
“I had a great time in South Bend,” Fryzel told On3 vice president of recruiting and transfer portal Steve Wiltfong. “Definitely a visit I won’t forget. … What excites me about the Irish is how they use their tight ends and how they plan to use me in their offense. … Definitely a strong contender in my recruitment.”
In addition to Notre Dame, Fryzel also visited Miami unofficially in early June and officially visited Duke last weekend. According to Rivals national recruiting analyst Greg Smith, Fryzel still plans to officially visit Iowa on June 20 before entering decision mode.
Fryzel was a key player in Central Catholic’s run to the state championship game last season. He earned all-state honorable mention from the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association after recording 43 receptions for 807 yards (18.8 yards per catch) and 10 touchdowns in 16 games.

Fryzel previously told Blue & Gold that general manager Mike Martin sees him as a strong fit for Mike Denbrock’s system. Martin was the one who offered Fryzel.
“They’re looking for a receiving guy,” Fryzel said. “A ‘big slot.’ I think my film shows that with my ball skills.”
Fryzel is one of four tight ends still on Notre Dame’s board. Earlier Tuesday, Singer reported that Waukee (Iowa) High four-star Evan Jacobson, On3’s No. 169 overall player and No. 11 tight end in the class, rescheduled his official Notre Dame visit from June 20 to June 13.
The Irish also plan to host Great Bend (Kan.) High four-star Ian Premer and Mansfield (Ohio) Lexington four-star Brayden Fogle, On3’s Nos. 3 and 8 tight ends in the class, for a midweek visit next week. Notre Dame does not currently have a tight end committed in its No. 4-ranked recruiting class.
