For those anticipating wholesale lineup changes or even some subtle tweaks to the Notre Dame football depth chart after a season-opening loss and an unusually early bye week, Irish head coach Marcus Freeman’s emphatic answer on Monday was none of the above.
Notre Dame football released its newest depth chart on Monday, ahead of Freeman’s weekly press conference, previewing Saturday night’s home opener at between No. 8 Notre Dame and 16th-ranked Texas A&M (7:30 p.m. EDT | NBC/Peacock).
At Blue & Gold, we’re committed to a depth chart projection as well, updated on Mondays, and anytime there’s a change. The difference is we’ll go beyond the two-deeps for the Irish.
A few things to note. Players with an -x after their names have been ruled out for the season. Players with -y have been ruled out for at least the upcoming game. Players with -q were listed as questionable in Monday’s official availability report from Notre Dame. OR denotes players tied for a spot on the depth chart.
There were no new additions to the out-for-the-season list and no significant additions or subtractions when it comes to players with more short-term recovery timelines.

Also of note, some playing rotations are such that the line between the 1s and the 2s are thin or, in some cases, indistinguishable. And in the case of offensive linemen, the depth charts often aren’t linear. For instance, Sullivan Absher would likely be the first sub in the game at any of the three interior positions if he doesn’t outright take over the starting spot.
Absher and Guerby Lambert, who started the Miami game at right offensive guard, remain an OR situation heading into the Texas A&M game, though Freeman is not ensuring both will play against the Aggies, as they did Aug. 31 at Miami.
With Notre Dame shifting to eligibility year as its primary identifier this season for the first time ever, we will follow that lead, but clarify between a redshirt freshman, for instance, and a true freshman.
Heights and weights were refreshed at the start of preseason camp on July 31.
