Notre Dame will host Missouri in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Tuesday, Dec. 2, CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported Wednesday and the Irish confirmed Thursday.

This will be the 10th time the Irish and Tigers have met, and first since an 87-58 Mizzou victory on Nov. 21, 2011. The Tigers lead the all-time series 7-2.

The ACC/SEC Challenge is set for its third season of a four-year contract. Notre Dame is 0-2 in the challenge, falling to South Carolina 65-53 in 2023 and Georgia 69-48 in 2024. Last season, the SEC dominated the challenge, winning 14 out of 16 matchups in early December. The only winners from the ACC were Duke, who beat Auburn, and Clemson, who beat Kentucky.

The challenge set the tone for the SEC’s best season ever and one of the ACC’s worst, as the former earned 14 NCAA Tournament bids and the latter earned four.

Missouri finished 22-11 (10-8 SEC) last season, its third under head coach Dennis Gates. The Tigers delivered signature wins over archrival Kansas, eventual national champion Florida and then-No. 4 Alabama, earning a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. However, they faltered down the stretch and fell to No. 11 Drake in the first round.

Mizzou returned four contributors who played 10 minutes per game or more, including leading scorer Mark Mitchell, a former Duke forward who averaged 13.9 points per game. Notre Dame knows the 6-foot-9 Mitchell well from his time with the Blue Devils, as he scored 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting — including 19 in the second half — in a 67-59 Irish loss on Jan. 6, 2024.

The Tigers also bring back Anthony Robinson II, an SEC all-defensive guard who scored 9.0 points per game last year but should take on a more prominent offensive role. They brought in five transfer additions, most notably former UCLA guard Sebastian Mack.

Notre Dame finished the 2024-25 season 15-18 (8-12 ACC), but the Irish hope a strong freshman class can elevate the team in Year 3 under head coach Micah Shrewsberry.
