It’s the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. It’s the Texas A&M Aggies. The rematch has all the potential in the world to live up to the original.

Last year, the Irish won 23-13 in a game that was knotted at 13 points apiece deep into the fourth quarter. Jeremiyah Love broke the tie with a 21-yard touchdown in the final two minutes. Mitch Jeter added insurance with as last-minute field goal.

What’s in store this time around in South Bend? You’ll have to tune in to find out. Here’s how to do so.

Series facts: The Fighting Irish lead the all-time series, 4-2. Notre Dame won the latest matchup, 23-13, at Kyle Field in College Station. The two hadn’t matched up since 2001 before then. This is only the Aggies’ second ever trip to South Bend.

Head coaches: Texas A&M — Mike Elko (26-14, fourth season overall; 10-5 at Texas A&M, second season) ; Notre Dame — Marcus Freeman (33-11, fourth season at Notre Dame and overall)

2025 team records: Notre Dame: 0-1; Texas A&M: 2-0

Noting Notre Dame: It wasn’t the start of the season the Irish hoped for. They lost at Miami, 27-24. But even in a game they admitted they didn’t play well enough to win, the Irish took some things from their performance in a close loss to a top 10 (now top 5) team on the road they can build upon. Particularly, leaning into the play of their redshirt freshman quarterback. CJ Carr went 19-of-30 for 221 yards with 2 touchdown passes and 1 interception. He also ran in a touchdown. He’s going to need some help from his supporting cast, though, to beat a good Texas A&M team. Particularly, he’ll need a better showing from the other side of the ball. Notre Dame’s defense was a bit softer than we’d gotten used to with Al Golden as the defensive coordinator. This is a show-me game for new DC Chris Ash.

Noting Texas A&M: The Aggies are undefeated but they weren’t tested in any way by their first two opponents, UTSA and Utah State. The Roadrunners ran for 203 yards on the Aggies, though, which was sured up by Mike Elko’s defense in Week 2. Utah State only ran for 78 yards. The story of Texas A&M’s season comes down to quarterback play as well however. If Marcel Reed is the improved passer he appears to be, with 7 touchdowns and 0 interceptions so far this season, the Aggies will be in business because he’s still one heck of a runner. He already has 105 rushing yards through two games. He’s got an improved wide receiver corps at his disposal and plenty of athleticism in his personal arsenal. Notre Dame’s chances of victory ride on slowing down the opposing QB.
