Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love continued his Heisman Trophy candidacy media parade with a 15-minute stop on the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday. Blue & Gold took some of the key points from his interview with the sports media mogul.

Here they are.

McAfee: How have you guys been able to win every week despite knowing one more loss and your season is effectively over?
Love:
“What Coach Free does, I would say, every week, is he reminds us of the pain of losing those two games early on in the season. He kind of uses that reminder to help us make sure we’re doing everything we can to put Notre Dame in the best position possible to go out there and have success. And as a player, what I do mentally is I just respect every opponent. I don’t go into any game thinking anybody is going to lay down because at the end of the day, we as a program feel like people got a target on us. No matter how we’re doing or no matter where we’re at in the ranking or whatever it may be, people want to beat Notre Dame.”

Love on Fighting Irish quarterback CJ Carr: “Since game one, I’ve just seen a ton of improvement from CJ. He’s always been a baller. He’s always been able to make the difficult throws. He’s never been the type to cower down or be scared of any defense. CJ has been elevating mentally every single game. I feel like every single game, he’s just getting smarter.”

Love on the home stretch: “I feel like this team is really good. Compared to last season, I would say I feel like the brotherhood is there more. Kudos to last year’s team and whatever we were able to accomplish. We made it to the national championship game. We didn’t win it all, but we got there. We took some lessons from that. And as far as this team this season, we’re ready to go, really. We got to focus on the ‘now.’ Finish the season out, the regular season. But once that’s over, we’re putting our foot on the gas and we’re going. And we feel very confident in our ability to compete with anybody.”

Notre Dame social media posts of the day

It was a big day for sports media personalities to talk about the Irish’s placement in the College Football Playoff rankings…

Fighting Irish quote of the day

“They’re going more eye test. And again, I told you that I think, this is speculation, that the coaches in the room are really carrying the day, and they would, likely, value a running game over a one-dimensional team that throws the football. And so, stylistically, they look at Notre Dame and they value them more than they value Alabama and that’s obvious; they ranked them ahead by one spot.”
