Where Notre Dame Fighting Irish appear in Week 6 college football rankings

Chaos occurred in college football on Saturday. Notre Dame was not a part of it.

Well, if you include the firing of now former Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman chaotic, then the Fighting Irish were indeed a part of it. But in regard to taking care of business and doing justice for itself in the polls, Notre Dame didn’t succumb to any funky business.

The Irish beat Pittman’s Razorbacks, 56-13, in Fayetteville, and they subsequently different suffer at all in the eyes of voters. In the Coaches Poll, Notre Dame (2-2) remained No. 21. In the Associated Press Poll, Notre Dame is No. 21.

Chaos is a perfect word to describe the way Notre Dame began the 2025 season, losing 27-24 at Miami and 41-40 at home vs. Texas A&M. The silver lining in that for the Irish? Both of those teams are two of the top-ranked programs in the country. Miami is No. 3/3. Texas A&M is No. 5/6. Both teams are 4-0.

Obviously, the better the Hurricanes and Aggies are as the season goes along the better those losses look for Notre Dame. And the better the Irish’s College Football Playoff résumé is as a result.

It’s still way too soon for the team to internally think that way. They need to be thinking of taking care of Boise State, NC State, USC and so on in the same manner in which they did the Razorbacks. One week at a time. That’s all Notre Dame can do.
