BREAKING: Ohio State basketball lands German shooting guard Mathieu Grujicic
COLUMBUS – For the second straight offseason, Ohio State has gone overseas to round out its roster.
The Buckeyes have received a commitment from highly-touted German shooting guard Mathieu Grujicic. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Grujicic currently plays for FC Barcelona’s Second Team. He has also played for the club’s U19 team at times.
Grujicic averaged 12.9 points per game for FC Barcelona’s Second Team this season while shooting 48.5% from the field. He also shot 33.6% from three-point range and 78.9% from the free throw line. Additionally, Grujicic averaged 4.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
Louisville, Kansas State and other Big Ten programs recruited Grujicic after he made his intentions known that he wanted to play college basketball next season. He is one of the top 2007-born prospects in Europe.
Grujicic is the sixth addition of the offseason for head coach Jake Diebler and Ohio State. He joins former Santa Clara center Christoph Tilly, former Wright State power forward Brandon Noel, former Baylor power forward Joshua Ojianwuna and former Indiana guard Gabe Cupps.
Tilly and Noel have established themselves as proven scorers in the frontcourt during their time at the mid-major level. Ojianwuna can provide the Buckeyes depth in the post. Cupps is a former Ohio Mr. Basketball honoree who started games for the Hoosiers before entering the transfer portal.
