Buckeye Bound: 2025 baseball signee Steven Cavaco on his journey from Alabama to Ohio State

COLUMBUS – Ohio State is a national brand on the recruiting trail, regardless of the sport.
2025 Buckeye baseball signee Steven Cavaco is an example of that. The Huntsville (Ala.) standout could have stayed in the south to play college baseball but decided to forge his own path in Columbus.
Lettermen Row recently caught up with Cavaco about his path to Ohio State for this edition of ‘Buckeye Bound’, a weekly conversation with prospects committed to the Scarlet & Gray to play sports other than football.
“I picked Ohio State in the first place because I fell in love with the campus, the athletic and academic resources are second to none,” Cavaco told Lettermen Row. “I felt like Ohio State Baseball was a sleeping giant.”
Cavaco committed in October of 2023 and stuck to his commitment through a coaching change. He stayed with the Buckeyes due to his love for Ohio State and belief in Justin Haire as a head coach.
“I stayed committed through the coaching change because I already knew Ohio State was a special place,” Cavaco said. “The reputation and character of Coach Haire and the rest of the staff had me convinced that they would bring Ohio State to the top of college baseball.”

Cavaco will arrive in Columbus in less than a month. He is looking forward to officially being a Buckeyes.
“I’m most excited to learn from such an experienced coaching staff and be a part of the Ohio State culture,” Cavaco said. “The Hard To Kill offense that Coach Haire has implemented is extremely exciting and the culture that the staff has created is top notch, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
The 5-foot-11, 189-pound Cavaco had a .333 batting average as a senior with two home runs and 12 RBIs. He was named the Class 7, Area 7 hitter of the year.
