NEWS: OHSAA suspends Ironton High School from playoffs due to illegal recruiting violations

COLUMBUS – The Ohio High School Athletics Association has handed out a major punishment to one member school due to illegal recruiting violations.

Ironton City Schools announced on Friday night that it had been informed by the OHSAA that the Ironton football team was being suspend from the playoffs due to illegal recruiting violations. In addition to the playoff suspension, the three coaches involved have been suspended from the playoffs next season and the program will be on probation through 2027-28.

Ironton won the OHSAA Division V State Championship last season. The Fighting Tigers defeated Liberty Center (Ohio) High School 28-17 in back and forth affair between two of the top small school teams in Ohio. Current Missouri freshman wide receiver Shaun Terry Was the star of the game. He finished with 10 receptions for 148 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a 67-yard touchdown and caught the game-clinching interception end Liberty Center’s final possession

The Fighting Tigers were 7-2 this season heading into the final week of the regular season. They were ranked inside the top-25 of Rivals Ohio High School Football Composite Rankings but now they ware done for the year.
