COLUMBUS — Seth Towns wasn’t able to be a playmaker for Ohio State last season due to injury.

He didn’t want his college career to end that way, so he is choosing for it to continue. Towns will return to Ohio State for his final season of eligibility — a seventh. He began his career at Harvard before transferring to the Buckeyes program prior to the 2020-21 season.

Adam Jardy from the Columbus Dispatch was first to report the news.

Towns has one year of eligibility remaining due to the NCAA extra year because of the pandemic. Towns is choosing to use it at Ohio State.

With Towns, the Buckeyes have a lengthy scorer and a capable defender. Yes, they reached 20 games without him last season. Next year, however, Towns could be an even bigger piece of the puzzle with E.J. Liddell and Malaki Branham off to the NBA.

Buckeyes senior guard Justice Sueing is also returning, meaning the Buckeyes certainly have some much-needed leadership returning to take the place of Kyle Young, Justin Ahrens, Liddell, Branham, Jimmy Sotos, Joey Brunk and Jamari Wheeler, who are all no longer with the program due to pro decisions or graduation.

Towns grew up in Ohio and knows what being at Ohio State means. He wants to represent Ohio State well and finish his career on a good note — returning to action and helping the Buckeyes win.

“It’s important for him to represent this university,” head coach Chris Holtmann said when Towns was ruled out for the year earlier this winter. “It means something. He’s a Columbus kid. I’m optimistic that his days in a Buckeyes uniform aren’t over.

“For him, it’s disappointing that he didn’t get a chance to get out there with his teammates this year and perform because he worked all summer for that.”

Towns will have another shot to be with the Buckeyes. He is returning for his final season of eligibility.
