Ohio State comes back to beat West Virginia in double overtime
COLUMBUS – Ohio State beat West Virginia 89-88 in double overtime on Saturday in one of its final nonconference games on the season. The Buckeyes improve to 8-2 on the season with the win.
The biggest bright spot for the Buckeyes against the Mountaineers was what freshman forward Amare Bynum did off the bench. He finished the game with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks with most of his scoring coming in the second half.
Outside of Bynum, Ohio State guard Bruce Thornton led the team in scoring with 21 points including the game winner. His fellow backcourt mate John Mobley Jr. finished 17 points. Center Christoph Tilly led the Buckeyes with 11 rebounds against the Mountaineers. He also had 14 points. The only other player in double figures was forward Devin Royal. He had 11 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out in overtime.
Ohio State has one marquee nonconference matchup this month against North Carolina on Dec. 20. The Buckeyes will take on the Tar Heels in Atlanta as a part CBS Sports Classic. Jake Diebler’s team returns to the Schottenstein Center on Dec. 23 to take on Grambling State in their final game of 2025.
