COLUMBUS — The Ohio State athletic department is impressing at nearly every sport it participates in right now.

Need some proof? Look no further than the LEARFIELD Director’s Cup standings, which now has the Buckeyes at the top of its rankings of athletic programs in the country. Ohio State took over the top spot this week after a quite strong performance in winter sports, including a second-place finish in the women’s hockey tournament and fifth place in women’s basketball.

Ohio State took over the top spot from Texas, who slides into No. 2 in the standings. Stanford, North Carolina and Alabama round out the top five in the current Director’s Cup standings. Ohio State has a 99.25-point lead over Texas for the lead in the Director’s Cup standings, an impressive lead heading into spring sports season.

As for the women’s ice hockey team, the Buckeyes made their second straight Frozen Four after winning the national title last winter. They were defeated in the title game but still celebrated a runner-up.
