Buckeyes rank as top wide receiver room in country by CBS Sports

COLUMBUS — Another offseason, another list of the top wide receiver groups in the country that features Ohio State at the top.
As preseason lists begin to trickle out ahead of the 2025 college football season, the Buckeyes will be at the top of the sport when it comes to the wide receiver ranking, no matter who’s putting the list together.
This time, it’s CBS Sports that put out its list of the top receiver units in the sport. And of course, they made sure the Buckeyes are at the top. Ohio State was followed by Clemson, Alabama, Auburn and LSU. Others considered for the list, per CBS Sports, were Oregon, Texas, Ole Miss, Georgia and Notre Dame.
It’s not just superstar sophomore Jeremiah Smith, either. Ohio State has a bucket of former four- and five-star prospects to put on the field, and the Buckeyes added one of the best tight ends in the country through the transfer portal this offseason. The offense is loaded, and it’s led by the pass-catchers.

Here’s what the folks at CBS Sports had to say about ranking Ohio State at the top of the receiver group rankings:
Jeremiah Smith demands all the attention after he shattered both Ohio State and Big Ten freshman receiving records last season, but it’s more than just the Smith Show in Columbus. Carnell Tate, a former blue-chip prospect in his own right, may very well emerge as next in a long line of first-round wide receivers out of Ohio State. He caught 52 passes for 733 yards and four touchdowns last season as OSU’s third option behind Smith and 2025 first rounder Emeka Egbuka. With Egbuka out of the picture and Smith drawing a large share of the defense’s attention, Tate should flourish.
There are plenty of other highly regarded prospects waiting in the wings as well — like return specialist Brandon Inniss, who should take on a larger role in the offense, and Mylan Graham, a top-60 prospect nationally in the same class of 2024 that produced Smith. Ohio State also landed the transfer portal’s top tight end in Max Klare, who had 685 yards and four touchdowns at Purdue last season.

Notably, that didn’t even mention Bryson Rodgers, a junior who is expected to have a role, and freshman Quincy Porter, who lost his black stripe this spring.
Ohio State was notably left off of CBS Sports’ rankings of the top running back rooms in the country.
But there was no question who has the best wide receiver room in college football. It’s Ohio State.
