Ohio State commitment Kyle McCord named to All-American game

After visiting Columbus this weekend, Ohio State commitment Kyle McCord came home to some exciting news.

He was being invited to the Adidas All-American Game.

The country’s fifth-ranked pro-style quarterback has soared up national lists in the last seven months, a rise that culminated in the chance to play in the nation’s premier all-american contests.

Of course, McCord won’t be playing in that game until January of 2021, so until then he’s spending his time working on getting his game to the next level and trying to bring the Buckeyes recruiting class to that point as well. Last weekend, he and his family were at Ohio State working in earnest to recruit for the Buckeyes.

‘I was talking to Beaux Collins and Troy Stellato a lot,” McCord told Lettermen Row. “I also spent a lot time with the committed guys like Jayden Ballard, Jack Sawyer and Ben Christman.”

McCord’s role in the Buckeyes 2021 class can’t be understated. Not only is he the quarterback, which of course sets the tone for a class in a lot of ways, but his relationship with receivers like Collins, Stellato and teammate Marvin Harrison, Jr. has the potential to impact each player’s decision moving forward.

Grant Toutant suffers season-ending injury

Buckeyes 2020 offensive line commitment Grant Toutant suffered a season-ending shoulder injury two weeks ago and is expected to undergo surgery to repair his damaged labrum in the next few weeks.

“We found out on Friday that the injury he sustained in the St. Mary’s game last week is a season-ending one,” Toutant’s mother, Helena, told Lettermen Row prior to the family’s arrival in Columbus on Saturday. “He’ll need surgery. We have already talked to the Ohio State coaches, and they seem to be all right with everything. They said it’s common and it happens in football.

“When he enrolls in June, he should be back to 100 percent following rehab.”

The injury is similar to the one suffered by fellow commitment Luke Wypler at the end of his junior season and one that current Buckeyes center Josh Myers dealt with at the end of his freshman season at Ohio State.

Ohio State in the mix for recently offered 2021 running back

The Buckeyes offered 2021 running back Lovasea Carroll about two months ago. At the time, the country’s eighth-ranked junior tailback was committed to South Carolina.

Shortly after that scholarship offer came, Carroll reopened his recruitment, giving schools around the country a chance to get back into the mix for the services of the Georgia native who plays at the IMG Acadaemy in Bradenton, Fla.

On Tuesday, he narrowed that list once again, cutting it down to a manageable eight teams.

Carroll is one of just six junior running backs with an offer from Ohio State. He has not yet visited the Buckeyes, but he is no doubt being recruited by his teammate at IMG, Lejond Cavazos.
