Ohio State opens week as heavy favorite at Purdue

COLUMBUS — Ohio State returned home for the first time in a month and took down a reeling Penn State team that doesn’t have a Big Ten — or power conference — win.
Now the Buckeyes will hit the road again for another game against a Purdue team that’s also winless against power competition. The Boilermakers have lost six straight after winning their first two games.
Because of that, the undefeated and top-ranked Buckeyes are a massive 28.5-point favorite for the road trip to West Lafayette on Saturday, according to the folks at the BetMGM Sportsbook. The total has been set at 48.5 points. The sportsbook expects a 38-10 Ohio State win.
Ohio State has won three straight games against Purdue, averaging a final score of 48.3-12.6, but the Boilermakers combined to score just seven points in the last two matchups — two years ago in West Lafayette and last year in the shutout in Columbus.
Purdue lost 21-16 at Michigan on Saturday night in a slugfest that wasn’t well played. Ohio State is fresh off beating Penn State 38-14 behind a great passing performance from Julian Sayin and his receivers as well as defensive excellence from the Buckeyes.
