COLUMBUS – Ohio State has flipped a top target to address a major need in its 2026 class.

Four-star Pittsburgh (Pa.) Pine-Richland cornerback Jay Timmons has flipped his commitment from Florida State to Ohio State. Timmons is the son of former Florida State standout and NFL player Lawrence Timmons but decided to turn down his father’s alma mater to become a Buckeye.

Timmons is the No. 29 overall prospect and No. 2 cornerback in the 2026 class, according to Rivals. No other recruiting outlet has him ranked inside the top-150 this cycle which makes him a Rivals outlier. He is No. 111 overall and No. 15 cornerback in the Rivals Industry Ranking.

Ohio State now has two cornerbacks committed in the 2026. Timmons joins Four-star Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic cornerback Jordan Thomas in the Buckeyes class. The Buckeyes also have three safeties committed this cycle: Four-star Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic safety Blaine Bradford, four-star Jacksonville (Fla.) The Bolles School safety Simeon Caldwell and Three-star Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy safety Khmari Bing. Bradford and Caldwell have been committed since April while Ohio State flipped Bing from Maryland in October.

Cornerbacks coach Tim Walton needed a second commitment in this class and Jay Timmons fills that need in a big way.
