COLUMBUS — Ohio State would much rather be traveling to Los Angeles or New Orleans for a College Football Playoff matchup.

But the Buckeyes lost that chance to compete for a national title last month, so instead of a Final Four showdown, they’re heading to Texas for the Cotton Bowl Classic. On Saturday, the Buckeyes touched down in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area for a week of festivities ahead of the top-10 matchup against No. 9 Missouri.

Following the loss to Michigan last month, Ohio State could have suffered opt-outs due to NFL Draft decisions. Other programs have had them in bunches ahead of their respective bowl games. But the Buckeyes appear to be nearly at full strength for the Cotton Bowl against Missouri; most of the NFL Draft-eligible players have already decided to suit up on Friday evening against the Tigers.

Ohio State will have festivities and practice on Monday for Christmas before practice and interview sessions Tuesday and Wednesday. Select Buckeyes defensive coaches and players will meet with the media on Tuesday afternoon. The offensive staff and players will follow that up with their own media session Wednesday.

This is just the third time Ohio State will compete in the Cotton Bowl classic. The Buckeyes are 2-0 all-time in the Cotton Bowl; they beat Texas A&M 28-12 on New Year’s Day 1987 and then won that bowl game with a 24-7 triumph over USC in the 2017 edition of the game.

Missouri, meanwhile, is playing in the Cotton Bowl for the fourth time. The Tigers are 2-1 all-time in the Cotton Bowl. They lost the 1946 edition of the game to Texas and beat Arkansas in 2008 and Oklahoma State in the 2014 edition of the game.

Lettermen Row will be on site in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area for the Cotton Bowl beginning Monday. We’ll have full coverage of the Buckeyes as they prepare for the Cotton Bowl all week.
