Marvin Harrison Jr. earns FWAA first-team All-America recognition

COLUMBUS — Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is on his way to another incredible postseason of honors.
A year after becoming a unanimous All-American last December, Harrison is already 40 percent of the way to becoming a two-time unanimous All-American this time around, too. He was named a first-team All-American from the Football Writers Association of America on Monday, a major honor for the superstar wide receiver.
He was previously named a first-team selection from the Walter Camp Football Foundation last week after earning that honor from CBS Sports and The Athletic previously.
According to the FWAA release on the All-America team, Harrison Jr. is the fifth Ohio State wide receiver to earn All-American status in the last four seasons, and Ohio State has had an All-American on offense in nine of the last 10 seasons.
Harrison Jr. is one of two Buckeyes stars to be named an All-American selection. Ohio State linebacker Tommy Eichenberg is a second-team selection from the FWAA for the second straight year. He had 82 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack and a forced fumble for the Buckeyes this season, leading Ohio State in tackles for the second straight season.
Harrison Jr. will still have to wait for the final three All-American teams to be released before he finds out if he’s a unanimous first-team All-American for the second straight year. The other three are The Sporting News, the Associated Press and the American Football Coaches Association. If they all pick Harrison Jr. as a first-teamer, he’ll get the unanimous distinction again.

A total of 35 different schools had at least one player on a Walter Camp All-American team this year. The SEC led the way with 13 honorees. Then came the Big Ten with 11 representatives.
Georgia, Iowa and Notre Dame each had two first-team picks. Meanwhile, Alabama got three second-team nods, and Ohio State came away with one first teamer and two second teamers.
Burke emerged as arguably the most improved Ohio State player early this season. Although he missed two games because of injury in the back half of the 12-game slate, he still finished the year as a key part of an elite Ohio State defense under second-year Buckeyes coordinator Jim Knowles.
Then there’s Williams, who took a massive step this season. After struggling to keep his weight down his first two years at Ohio State, his endurance was in peak form in 2023, even after he missed time in training camp with an injury. Williams piled up 50 total tackles, more than he recorded his first two years combined, 10 tackles for loss, five passes defended, three sacks and a fumble recovery touchdown.
