COLUMBUS — Ohio State has added to its offensive coaching staff yet again. And the Buckeyes are bringing in a long-time offensive line coach with a history around the Big Ten.

They’ve hired Tim Drevno as an offensive analyst, a team spokesperson confirmed to Lettermen Row on Wednesday. He’ll work with the offensive line.

Ohio State had an offensive line analyst last year in Joe Philbin, but he left the program after one year to join the Las Vegas Raiders staff.

Drevno is a California native with plenty of college football coaching experience — and he spent some time in the NFL.

He was at the University of San Diego from 2003-2006, where he worked under former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. He followed Harbaugh to Stanford, where he worked with tight ends and the offensive line. After that, he again followed Harbaugh to the San Francisco 49ers before going to USC for the 2014 season. But he didn’t leave Harbaugh for long, again going with Harbaugh to Michigan. Drevno was the Wolverines offensive coordinator and offensive line coach from 2015-2017 before finally breaking from the Harbaugh coaching tree.

Drevno spent three years, 2018 to 2020, with USC as part of Clay Helton’s staff. He worked with the offensive line and was the run-game coordinator before being hired by Chip Kelly at UCLA. Drevno spent one year as an offensive analyst for Kelly before becoming the offensive line coach — once Justin Frye left for Ohio State.

Now Drevno is following Kelly to Ohio State, where he’ll be reunited with Kelly and Frye — and he’ll work for Ryan Day and the arch-rival program to Michigan, where Drevno served under Harbaugh.

Ohio State has added yet another offensive staffer to its already-impressive list of coaches.
