COLUMBUS — Ohio State wrapped up one of the busiest months of the calendar. October is busy both for the team and the recruiting trail. And the Buckeyes conquered plenty of things within the 31 days.

The on-field success is highlighted by the win over Penn State in a top-10 matchup inside Ohio Stadium. Ohio State’s defense has played lights out over the last few weeks and that was evident in its wins over both Penn State and Wisconsin.

But what about the success on the recruiting trail? That’s where the latest episode of the Lettermen Lounge begins.

Co-hosts Spencer Holbrook and Matt Parker, after a quick exchange of pleasantries and an unimportant note, dive right into the Buckeyes’ October success on the recruiting trail. The big question asked was who was the recent 2025 commit of the largest consequences.

One answer was that of four-star Cocoa (Fla) wide receiver Jayvan Boggs and the other was four-star Baltimore (Md) St. Frances Academy cornerback Blake Woodby. Boggs was chosen on the thought of a relationship between wide receiver and quarterback starting. The Buckeyes have four-star Bellefontaine (Ohio) quarterback Tavien St. Clair committed to the class. Whenever the opportunity for a quarterback and wide receiver to build their off-field relationship arises, it is critically important.

Woodby was chosen for the mere reason that he knows there is perhaps a bigger priority for Ohio State at the position. Cornerback coach Tim Walton is aggressively recruiting a number of high-caliber targets like Devin Sanchez, Dorian Brew, Mark Zackery and others.

It’s important the Buckeyes land prospects that are on their board, regardless of position.

A name not initially mentioned, but paved the way for a large tangent, was Eli Lee. The three-star Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban linebacker committed to Ohio State just three weeks after he earned his offer. The notion of in-state prospects and commits perhaps not getting the flowers they deserve was discussed. Ohio State could land as many as 9-10 in-state prospects in the 2025 cycle.

While we spent a large majority of the show discussing what the month of October was for Ohio State, we did preview November. The Buckeyes have two home games left in the 2023 season. That means two more opportunities to host recruits in the Horseshoe.

Ohio State will host five-star Bradenton (Fla) IMG Academy offensive tackle Jordan Seaton for an official visit on Nov. 11. But that conversation will take place next week as we preview the Michigan State game.
