COLUMBUS — The Tim May Podcast is back for another episode as Ohio State reaches a pivotal moment of the offseason.

Lettermen Row’s Tim May has a huge edition of the show, this time diving into C.J. Stroud and what makes him an intriguing option at quarterback this fall for the Buckeyes. Tim welcomes on Stroud’s high school coach and offensive coordinator from Rancho Cucamonga (California), Mark Verti.

For much of Stroud’s career at Rancho Cucamonga, he was under the radar. Just a three-star recruit headed into the summer before his senior year, the 2019 Elite 11 Finals changed the entire trajectory of his football career. His ability to throw the ball anywhere across the field and knack for reading defenses put him on the map as he won the Elite 11 MVP title. By the end of his recruitment he was ranked as the second-overall pro-style quarterback in the class and had offers from the Buckeyes, Michigan, Georgia, Oregon and USC.

He eventually picked Ohio State and is now entering his sophomore season in Columbus. The Buckeyes have a three-man race currently for the starting job. Stroud looked like the favorite this spring with a strong arm, but Kyle McCord and Jack Miller are perfectly capable, too. The race is set to carry over into training camp but Ryan Day and Corey Dennis will make a decision before the Sept. 2 opener at Minnesota.

Can C.J. Stroud win the Ohio State starting quarterback job? What makes Stroud the leader to become the next signal-caller for the Buckeyes? What does his high school coach think of the Ohio State quarterback race?
