Ohio State verbal commit Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the country’s 10th-ranked wide receiver prospect in the Class of 2020, is set to embark on his final year of high school football.

A Rockwall (Texas) standout, Smith-Njigba committed to Ohio State last November, just days after his first visit with the Buckeyes. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder has risen up the national rankings following two huge seasons at Rockwall, collecting more than 3,000 yards receiving heading into his senior season. The talented prospect is sharing his senior campaign with Lettermen Row through a weekly journal that will focus on Smith-Njigba’s football, family and anything else on his mind as he prepares to enroll at Ohio State in January.

We squeaked by with a victory at Tyler Lee last Friday, 35-32. It wasn’t our best game, and it was definitely a close game — but a win is a win.

It was great to see the Buckeyes taking care of business last Saturday. I loved it, and I definitely think they’re the No.1 team in the country. It would be crazy if they make it to the national championship game in January, because I’d make it to Columbus just in time to experience the energy with the campus and city. I think that they have the talent and the drive to make it happen. They just need to keep focused.

On Sunday, I taped a special feature with two other top receivers in the state, Marvin Mims and tight end Blake Smith. Marvin is committed to Stanford and Blake is headed to Texas A&M, and actually both of those guys hold Ohio State offers.

We grew up playing AAU basketball together, but all three of us ended up making football our focus. Seems like that has worked out for the best. It was good to see those guys. The feature will air November 10 on a local news channel, the day I come back from my official visit to Columbus. I’m so excited to be heading back to campus for the game against Maryland and to see the team and coaches.

This week we play Mesquite. It’s our last regular season home game in our stadium. Friday night is Senior Night, so our parents will escort us on to the field prior to kickoff. It will be a special moment to reflect on my growth throughout my four seasons as a Rockwall Yellow Jacket. I know it will be very emotional for a lot of reasons, and to top it off, Coach Hartline is coming to my game. That means a lot. Personally, I’m hoping for a big night.

I will report back next week after making that happen. Happy Halloween everyone. O-H!
