Jamison Battle to participate in college 3-point championship

Jamison Battle’s college career won’t end on a buzzer-beater, after all. Well, kind of.

The Ohio State sharpshooter is one of eight players who will participate in the college 3-point championship at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, on April 4.

Other participants include Oakland’s Jack Gohlke and Northwestern’s Boo Buie. Gohlke took March Madness by storm. His 16 3-pointers were the most by any player through two games of NCAA Tournament play — ever. He knocked down 10 in an upset win over Kentucky in the first round.

While Gohlke burst onto the scene this month, Buie has been around a minute. But his 43.4% clip from beyond the arc in 2023-24 was the best of his five-year career. He splashed 89 triples while averaging 19.0 points per game, the fourth most of any player in the Big Ten this season.

Similarly, Battle also set a career high with a 43.3% 3-point percentage in the final act of his five-year career. Battle made 91 triples this season and tied Jon Diebler’s Ohio State record with at least five 3-pointers in four consecutive games. Like Buie, Battle isn’t a one-trick pony, either. The former George Washington and Minnesota transfer averaged 15.3 points per game this season.

Battle didn’t make the NCAA Tournament in his lone season with the Buckeyes, but he did win 22 games, make a mini NIT run and now will get a shot at some hardware, albeit fun hardware, in April.

Ohio State guard Bowen Hardman enters transfer portal

Bowen Hardman became the first Ohio State player to enter the transfer portal this offseason Thursday. Hardman hit the portal after playing in just 25 games in two years with the Buckeyes.

He hardly saw the court as a freshman, despite being in a top-10 recruiting class that also featured guards Bruce Thornton and Roddy Gayle Jr., wing Brice Sensabaugh and center Felix Okpara.

Hardman carved out a bit of a 3-point marksmanship role for himself this season, appearing in 18 games and shooting 9-of-21 from long range. Still, he averaged just 4.2 minutes per contest.

Now, he’s in the portal. Go here for more details.

Three unknowns about Buckeyes as spring practice hits halfway point

Student Appreciation Day is fast approaching, meaning the media — and several students — will soon get a better look at the 2024 Buckeyes.

Some unknowns will become clearer, including a couple Lettermen Row highlighted in this piece. Most importantly, the progress of the quarterback battle between Kansas State grad transfer Will Howard and redshirt sophomore Devin Brown will be monitored closely.

Check out the other unknowns midway through spring ball here.
