COLUMBUS — Ohio State scored just one touchdown in the first half at Northwestern Saturday but, despite continued issues in the run game and debilitating weather conditions, pulled out a 21-7 victory over the Wildcats in Ryan Field.

Luckily for the Buckeyes, the unconvincing win wasn’t necessarily in the spotlight because No. 1 Georgia beat No. 3 Tennessee, 27-13; Notre Dame blew out No. 5 Clemson, 35-14; and No. 15 LSU upset No. 6 Alabama, 32-31, in overtime.

As a result, Ohio State stayed put at No. 2 in the latest AP Poll.

The Buckeyes received one first-place vote in this week’s poll. They still trail only Georgia, which earned 62 first-place votes. Michigan, TCU and Tennessee round out the top five.

Ohio State plays Indiana at home next week. The Hoosiers are coming off a 45-14 loss to Penn State and are now 3-6, including 1-5 in the Big Ten. It should be a “get right” matchup offensively for the Buckeyes, as Indiana currently ranks 114th nationally in scoring defense (32.2 points per game allowed).

The Buckeyes have three regular season games remaining. Most notably, their showdown with Michigan is on Nov. 26. The Wolverines were trailing Rutgers, 17-14, at halftime this weekend before proceeding to rip off 38 unanswered points in the final two quarters of play.
