COLUMBUS — Entering Week 4, Ohio State is staying put at No. 6 in the AP Top 25.

Some notable movement: Florida State dropped from No. 3 to No. 4 after getting a scare at Boston College; Alabama fell out of the top 10 for the first time since 2015, sliding to No. 13 with an underwhelming win at USF; Oregon cracked the top 10 following a beatdown of Hawaii; and Tennessee plummeted 12 spots to No. 23 after losing to now-No. 25 Florida.

The Buckeyes (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) are coming off their most dominant and complete win of the young season. They rolled past Western Kentucky, 63-10, Saturday, scoring more points in Week 3 than they did in Week 1 and Week 2 combined (58 points).

Ohio State forced four WKU turnovers, two of which resulted in Buckeyes defensive touchdowns. That marked the first time Ohio State has had two defensive touchdowns in the same game since 2018 against TCU.

What’s more, the Buckeyes’ 35-point second quarter was their highest-scoring frame since they piled on 42 points in the second quarter versus Miami (Ohio) in 2019.

Quarterback Kyle McCord showed out in his first start as full-time QB1. McCord had more touchdown passes (three) than incompletions (2) by halftime and finished with 318 yards through the air.

“Having a game like this I think will give all the guys a little boost of confidence going into the game next week,” McCord said postgame. “I think the biggest thing is just continuing to ramp up that intensity in practice. Because we know what it’s going to be next week in South Bend. It’s a really good team in a tough environment. So we’re just going to have to ramp it up and continue on this kind of trajectory that we’re on right now.”

Ohio State will play at No. 9 Notre Dame this coming weekend for the first time since 1996. The Buckeyes are getting a different Fighting Irish squad than the one Ohio State took down, 21-10, in last year’s season opener. Quarterback Sam Hartman looks like a legit Heisman Trophy candidate, and the Notre Dame defense is tied for 14th nationally with 11.8 points per game allowed.
