OC/TEs coach Kevin Wilson sticking with Ohio State through CFP before starting Tulsa job

Kevin Wilson has been Ohio State’s offensive coordinator and tight ends coach the last six seasons. The six years before that, he was the head coach of Indiana, where he went 26-47 before being fired. Now, Wilson is getting another opportunity to lead a program.

He was introduced as Tulsa’s new head coach Tuesday after accepting what’s reportedly a five-year deal. During his introductory press conference, however, Wilson talked about his unfinished business with the Buckeyes.

“I’m standing here because of the success of our team,” Wilson said. “I think it’s my obligation to finish up with that team and give that team a chance to chase the national championship.”

Wilson and Ohio State head coach Ryan Day were both hired in 2017. Since, the Buckeyes have averaged north of 40 points per game every season, ranking inside the top 10 in scoring offense in five of those six years.

An Ohio State offensive coordinator sticking around to face a top-seeded SEC champion in the College Football Playoff with an AAC head coaching opportunity on the horizon? If you feel like you’ve heard it before, you have.

Tom Herman did the same thing back in 2014 when he helped the Buckeyes top Alabama in the CFP semifinal and then Oregon in the national title game before starting up as Houston’s next head coach.

Peach Bowl atop comprehensive bowl rankings

Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports ranked every bowl game, 41-1.

No. 4 Ohio State’s Peach Bowl date with No. 1 Georgia, which doubles as a CFP semifinal, clocked in at No. 1 on Fornelli’s list. It’s a showdown of college football titans that Fornelli called a “banger.”

Fornelli wrote:

“If this isn’t a battle of heavyweights, then what is? Sure, some people are mad at Ohio State being chosen for the College Football Playoff despite getting beat handily at home by Michigan to finish the regular season, but ignore that. Look at this matchup for what it is. It’s a game between the defending champion with an elite defense against one of the most talented teams in the country filled with future NFL players.”

Tim May Podcast: Taking first look at Peach Bowl, how Buckeyes can beat Georgia

New Year’s Eve may be more than three weeks away, but that doesn’t mean we can’t talk about the Peach Bowl. Tim May did deep dive on the matchup on his weekly podcast with a pair of special guests: Bill Bender, national college football writer for The Sporting News, and former Ohio State defensive back Donald Washington, who played for the Buckeyes from 2005-08 and then enjoyed a six-year NFL career.

It’s all part of the early Peach Bowl edition of the Tim May Podcast. The CFP-centric discourse makes the episode a must-listen for Buckeyes fans. If you know a Georgia fan, send it their way, too.
