Marvin Harrison Jr. named AP Big Ten Offensive PoY, one of six first-team Buckeyes

The Associated Press announced its All-Big Ten honors Wednesday night, and Heisman Trophy finalist Marvin Harrison Jr. headlined the group.

Harrison is not only one of six Ohio State players to receive first-team All-Big Ten recognition from the AP, but he’s also the AP Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.

Harrison earned the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year award from the league itself last week. And he’s headed to New York City for the Heisman ceremony later this week, not to mention that he’s a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which is given annually to the top receiver in college football.

Harrison caught 67 passes for 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. He also added his first career rushing touchdown. During the 2023 campaign, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound receiver became the first player in Ohio State history to stack 1,000-yard receiving season. Additionally, Harrison set the program record for most career 100-yard receiving games with 15.

Harrison was a unanimous AP first-team All-Big Ten selection for the second year in a row. Here are the other five Ohio State players who made the AP All-Big Ten first team:

+ LG Donovan Jackson: Jackson bounced back from a slow start to the season and finished with only 10 pressures allowed, three fewer than the previous year, according to Pro Football Focus. He also wasn’t penalized all season.

+ TE Cade Stover: Stover is a two-time Ohio State captain who had the best year of his career in 2023. He reeled in 41 passes for 576 yards and five touchdowns, setting personal bests in the first two of those three categories as the Buckeyes’ second-leading receiver this season.

+ RB TreVeyon Henderson: Even though he missed three games after taking what he called a “cheap shot” at Notre Dame, Henderson still rounded out the regular season with 854 rushing yards and 11 scores on the ground. Plus, he added 19 catches for 229 receiving yards.

+ DE J.T. Tuimoloau: Tuimoloau led the Buckeyes with 35 pressures generated this season, per PFF. He logged a career-high four sacks and 34 total tackles. Tuimoloau made game-changing stops in Ohio State’s first two top-10 matchups against Notre Dame and Penn State.

+ LB Tommy Eichenberg: For the second year in a row, Eichenberg led Ohio State in both total tackles and solo tackles. Eichenberg, like Stover, is a two-time Buckeyes captain. He emerged as the quarterback of the defense under coordinator Jim Knowles.

Ohio State was tied with Big Ten champion Michigan with the most honorees (six) on the AP All-Big Ten first team. The Buckeyes had four players make the second team as well: right tackle Josh Fryar, right guard Matthew Jones, defensive tackle Tyleik Williams and cornerback Denzel Burke.

Buckeyes running back Chip Trayanum enters transfer portal

Ohio State running back Chip Trayanum is the latest Buckeyes player to hit the transfer portal. Trayanum joined the Buckeyes via the portal from Arizona State ahead of the 2022 season.

He originally came to Ohio State to play linebacker, but the Akron native wound up switching back to running back, the position he played with the Sun Devils. Trayanum stepped up for an injury-riddled Buckeyes backfield last season, led the team in rushing against Michigan and did so well that Ohio State wanted him to remain at running back for 2023.

Trayanum followed through with that plan, had a great offseason and recorded the second-most rushing attempts (85) and rushing yards (373) on the team. He’s also tied for the second-most rushing touchdowns (three) of any Buckeyes player this season.
